It’s been a while since I updated my reading log. I’ve just finished the sequence up to The Far Side of the World, by Patrick O’Brian. It’s one of his better stories, partly because of how schizophrenic it is. It’s all over. There’s shipwreck, chase, despair, injury, all sorts of things, all in a remarkably small space, and in a very natural flow. Even some very decent laughs. The story follows the movie in some ways, but it’s got a lot more time to tell the story, so it goes in so many more depths and turns that you just miss. It’s wonderful.
When the kids are in the car, we’re listening to Harry Potter 2. This month I picked up another Jeeves story and Legacy of Ashes, which promises to be a laugh-a-minute I’m sure.
