I mentioned this to a friend at work who had seen the movie and not the book. His question was whether the hero survives "the explosion." Me: "What explosion?" From the conversation that followed, the differences are quite huge apparently. I didn't mind the ending of the book, in fact I thought it was quite fun, even for being a tragedy.
